Today, I went to the Greek festival in Dilworth, and after hunting a parking space for fifteen minutes and then hiking a good seven blocks, I realized I'd left my cell phone in my car. Panic!! I had at least ten million crazy thoughts running through my head..someone would break into my car to steal my phone, after breaking in, said person would be nosey and find all the shopping bags in the back, I had no camera to take those necessary photo-op moments for Instagram, I had no life-line to the world (even though I was standing in the middle of a thriving festival in full swing). For a good two minutes, my poor brain was overwhelmed. And then, thank God, my rational brain kicked in and I decided to just not worry about it and enjoy the wonderful day.
As it turns out, I had a great (phone-less) day! My beloved Jeep was unharmed and my lovely J.Crew clad iPhone was sitting contently in the cup holder, just where I had left it a few hours earlier.
It's amazing what we think we can't live without.
(And truth be told, I didn't miss it.)
