'Tis the season..

So my employer's annual Christmas party was this weekend (December 8th), and was an absolute hit! It was a Las Vegas themed, and boy did we live it up! Getting up Sunday morning was rough to say the least (lol).

(Vegas-themed outfit ideas)

After buying four different dresses, I settle on a more modest, black, 3/4 length sleeve sheath dress that has been one of my favorites for a long time. Grabbed a pair of black Spanx, a pair of giraffe heels, a few *bling* accessories, and I was set.

Life is like a glass of water..

Life is all about perspective. How you see things directly relates to how you react to them, and let's all be honest, we don't always react in the most ideal ways. (I know I don't.)

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” - Charles R. Swindoll

(It's not me..it's you.)

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on. - George Jung
That's just it. Life goes on. If you cannot accept something, change it..if you cannot change something, accept it. If you ride the fence, don't expect anyone to take you seriously. Keep an open mind, but not so open that you never have a definite opinion about anything. And a word of karmic advice...

Let's face it..

I'll be the first to admit, I have seriously neglected my face. G-u-i-l-t-y. Not taking off the perfect smoky, sultry, dramatic nighttime makeup is a golden ticket for waking up looking like Tammy Faye Bakker or a rabid raccoon. I'm pretty sure I don't have to go into much detail..we've all been there.

good morning, gorgeous!!

Snarling Procyonoidae and dramafied televangelists aside, I have tried to maintain a skincare routine that is easy, streamlined, and effective, in hopes that I can save myself from looking like a rough-grain leather bag while my skin is still young enough to be forgiving of the abuse I bestow.

Morning Face Routine: (pre-coffee, pre-breakfast zombie mode)

  1. Use a cleansing cloth (such as Neutrogena Makeup Removing towelettes) to clean off any stubborn makeup that didn't come off.
  2. Drink coffee.
  3. I normally wash my face in the shower. My Clarisonic Mia stays in the shower, as well as the facial cleanser I am currently using.
  4.  Next step: Toner..swipe swipe swipe.
  5. I then normally apply a balancing lotion and then a day time moisturizer with SPF before applying my makeup.

Nighttime Face Routine(dead tired, sometimes tipsy)
My nightly routine is simple. I use a makeup remover wipe to take off the majority of my makeup and then do a quick wash. Bing bang boom. No frills. I should do more at night, but I'm lazy.

I have tried many different skincare products. From drugstore cheap to high end European lines, it's been in my bathroom. I am currently using a mix/match of different products, and my skin is surprisingly happy.

What's on my counter right now:
- Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Cleansing Cloths - I was in a hurry one day at Target and grabbed these wipes instead of the classic blue makeup remover wipes. And let me tell you, these are great! Leave my face feeling clean, refreshed and the grapefruit smell is intoxicating.
Clinique 3-Step Skin Care Line - After never having good results and swearing I'd never use Clinique again, I met an amazing specialist that finally made me a believer in their products. I love the liquid cleanser..no more icky bar soap, and the gel version of the daily moisturizing lotion is so lightweight.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Gel Creme - One Sunday afternoon I stopped by Nordstrom and picked up a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer from Chanel. And everything being said and done, I have to say that this stuff is hands-down the best product of the entire purchase. I use this as an alternate to the Clinique lotion, mainly on days when my skin is dehydrated.

(These  great Clinique products are also in my medicine cabinet. All About Eyes is like a hangover cure for puffy eyes!)

Probably -the- single best investment I have ever made, beauty wise, is the Clarisonic Mia. I tried other brands that offered similar results, however this thing is uh-may-zing. So easy to use, waterproof (I leave mine in the shower), and much more effective than anything I have ever tried.

On a whim, I purchased the Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infusion Skin System and I honestly haven't really used it more than a handful of times, so I can't really give it a 'yay' or 'nay'.

One other product I really love using is the Kate Somerville Dermal Quench Liquid Lift Advanced Wrinkle Treatment. While I'm not fighting any saggy, baggy, wrinkle face problems yet, this stuff is like a 'facelift in a can'. It does have a bit of an odd smell, but a few quick sprays, 30 seconds of massaging it in, and bingo, you can see the difference. And it gives your skin a nice natural glow as well.
(OTC Botox in a can..thanks Kate!!)

For an added boost, I do try keep a microdermabrasion appointment on my calendar, although I've been completely slack lately. I'm addicted..I love it! But that's it! My basic routine. Not perfect. Not complicated. But it works! And if it's quick and easy, I'm happy!

Today's Life Lesson..don't be a judgemental bitch, please.

As of today, I have been alive 10,445 days. That's 15,040,800 minutes. Over 900 million seconds and probably over a billion when I'm done with this post. I don't know everything and haven't experienced everything in this big, wide crazy world we live in. But in my 10,445 days, I do however know that people are not perfect in any way, shape, or form and denial is not just a river in Egypt.

Are you the Queen of Denial?

We all come from different places (Ok..yes, even Egypt). Different backgrounds. Some people grew up eating blueberry pancakes for breakfast as a kid, going to private school, and alternating between tennis lessons, soccer practice, riding lessons and ice skating after school. Other people grew up on pop tarts, instant breakfast, and sometimes even ::gasp:: school food. After school, it was off to daycare with a small herd of other rowdy hellions to spend a few hours hanging like monkeys on the jungle gym, playing dodge ball, and usually scheming ways to pull a good one on the daycare teacher.

I was lucky enough to have a mixture of both. Had more than my fair share of instant breakfast and pop tarts, but had the good stuff on the weekends. Went through the regular rotations of tap, dance, gymnastics, ballet. Spent hours on the tennis court with my Mom. Made more memories than I can remember getting blisters from the monkey bars and rolling around on the playground. Even played on the bulldozer with my Dad. And finally moved to spending my afternoons at the horse barn, which is a whole book of stories in itself.

Overall, I think I turned out to be a pretty good person. I try to be nice, even though I can be the complete opposite at times. I try to help people as much as I can, purely for the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference and hoping that instead of owing a favor, they will continue to "pay it forward".

I also try to be fair and not judge. It's very hard at times to not make little quippy comments about people we don't necessarily care for or a jealous of or people who we are angry with and even people who have never done a single thing to deserve it.

Judgmental Bitches

I think the hardest thing I struggle with is not being a judgmental bitch. We all struggle with this - first of all, realizing it, secondly, trying not to be one and third, trying not to have thoughts of off-ing all the rest. I am definitely, absolutely, undeniably sure it has been innately-bred into women. And my vote for the nastiest of all of us are the lovely women of the South. Charming, primped, polished. Born and raised to smile and wave, bake and cook, be the perfect wife and mother. And if the lucky ladies who have been transplanted from other parts of the country did not have this bitchy spark when they arrived, give it a few months in the thick Southern air and they'll be a raging inferno of a Class A Judgmental Bitch.

So, now back to the 10,445 day life lesson. Try to be a better person. Don't be a judgmental bitch. When someone has a nice bag, give them a compliment. Don't say 'oh, I love your bag! Where do you work again? What do you do for a living?" It's none of your business, Judgmental Bitch. And, as satisfying as it would be to see someone's face if you tell them you work as stripper named Candy Apples, just smile and say thank you. Be satisfied with who you are, and if you're not happy with yourself, do something.

“I think it would be funny to have one of those family decals showing a really skinny teenage girl barfing into a little chalk-outline bag (the bulimic in the family) or the dad figure dressed in the woman's underwear that he truly enjoys slipping into when no one's looking. Or the wife figure smiling with her exaggerated curly hair and tennis skirt, clutching a racket in one hand and a bottle of Stoli' in the other.”

Truth is, and pardon the expression, but we all put our pants on the same way..one leg at a time, and, Queen or not, there is no denying that.

What I've been up to lately..

Yes..I'm alive!! Between work and work and more work, I've managed, with a great deal of help from Starbucks and shopping, to keep from pulling my hair out.

Speaking of hair, I am now a certified ginger! After much debate and hesitation, I skipped making an appointment and grabbed a box of hair color from Target and went to town on my lovely, salon pampered hair. Luckily, I have been blessed with very forgiving hair, and the color turned out a vibrant red and auburn that I am so, so happy with! Just praying it doesn't fade. ::fingers crossed::

(lovely ginger me)

Clockwise from top left: Rocking the oxblood jeans! Love the richness of these jeans and scored these from the Vera Wang Kohl's line (el cheapo); my addiction - venti iced three pump soy single shot Chai latte; my latest gelish color; and after 57 trips (ok..4) to Verizon, trying to get an early upgrade, I finally got my 5!

What I've been wearing:
Thanks to Fall finally showing up, I've been able to pull a few boxes out of storage (ok - I've been shopping too), and I am so happy!

So I'm going to try my best to be a better blogger..no promises, but hopefully I'll have more time. Until then, Happy Fall!

That one person..

In life, there is always that one person who will forever change you.

I will never forget the day I met Jeremiah Shelton Anders. He'd been sent to town to pick up tractor parts and supplies for the farm, and because he wasn't familiar with the town or the locations of the businesses we dealt with, I was volunteered to go with him. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea that I had to babysit the new guy, but as always, I jumped at a chance to get out and break the routine of sitting at a desk covered with paperwork and answering endless phone calls. So I went.

We picked up and dropped off what we needed and then spent the next few hours just driving around. Talking about everything..you name it. And, honestly, I don't think either of us wanted to pull back through the gate at the farm. But we did and went our separate ways for the rest of the day. Little did I know, it was the start of an truly unforgettable relationship.

Shelton taught me a LOT of things:
- the true definition of an all-American man
- how to get lost and un-lost in the woods in the middle of the night
- how to, after figuring out where we were, get a four wheeler on the other side of a fence without going through it
- how to spend hours in a garage and never get bored
- how to successfully skateboard without breaking my neck (in aforementioned garage)
- how to do a perfect doughnut
- how to drive a stick shift (the right way)
- how to get the courage up to jump off a thirty foot waterfall
- the best ways to spend Sunday afternoons
- how many nicknames one person could have
- how to spend the summer the right way
- every line of A River Runs Through It
- how to truly appreciate a great movie
- how to fall asleep during a boring movie
- that climbing out a second story window and sitting the roof is sometimes a good idea
- that "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy" - the song by Billy Currington, is perfect to wake up to
- exactly how incredibly gorgeous a half naked guy can look in the bathroom while getting ready
- exactly how mad I could be at one person
- that even if I stormed off, the phone would always ring when I was less than a mile down the road
- how to smile until my face felt like it was going to break
- how to laugh until we cried
- what it was like to truly love someone
- how hard it is to let them go

Shelton passed away almost two years ago, and it has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through in my life. I never knew that losing someone could hurt so much.
And I don't believe time heals all wounds. There are some that remain, but the memories supersede the pain. The laughter. The crazy things we did. The little things that only made sense to the two of us. Everything. I became a better person and a stronger person because he made me see it. And for that I am forever changed and forever grateful.

(Where's your mule that kicks holes in the sky and shakes off its saddle? Where's your slavering wolf of the rolling prairie? Here's your old grizzer brown bear can clobber bark off a gum tree. There's a man for you, Jeremiah Johnson. I'm half horse, half gator, and a touch of the earthquake. I got the prettiest gal, fastest horse, ugliest dog this side of hell. I can out-jump, out-run, throw down drag out and whip any man in all Kentucky. - Jeremiah Johnson, 1972)
